  Take it easy there Hillary, who said 'lies"??? Distortions certainly. How often do you see positive stories about people who chose to serve in the military?

  More people die on highways every year than troops who die in combat. Should we shut down the Interstates? Ban the automobile? Now, I would like to know how many motor vehicle crash survivors on US highways wind up with traumatic brain injury... ? And not to mention how "pointless" these highway deaths are, something must be done and done NOW.

  I don't mind varying opinions, but will insist on consistency.

  i stopped going to meetings over a year ago as i'm a lesbian and have finally accepted it.

  i was a witness for 22 years, since i was born.

  now i missed my friends at the hall at first, but now i have some amazing new friends that love me no matter what.

  It's time to set firm boundaries. Why go into a humilating scene? You know how it is, and it's a conflict YOU need to deal with. So why make it any harder than it already is?

  I agree with writing the letter and leaving it at that. A meeting will not change anything at this point.

  Hang in there, and don't let it stress you out.

  "Most are there for a better life." No, they're there b/c they decided they won't sit back and be passively slaughtered in their streets. They don't want anymore 9/11's. That's it.

  "For an education." I know personally a great many, and they probably have more education than you do, as they have more than average citizens. But there are some who want to serve first, and get an education later.

  "The majority are from poor sectors and see no way out of poverty, other than joining the military." BS, bs, and bs. I'm from anything but a poor sector (but your class-baiting is noted), and I personally know one who has a sizeable fortune and business opportunities waiting for his return. He's 20 yrs. old and believes the best use of his time at this point is spent helping to defeat people who want to destroy what we have here.

  "Aggressive recruitment capitalizes on this." Recruitment is being hampered. Most GO TO the recruiting offices.

  "You're speaking for all of the troops?" Yes. I personally know and speak as part of a vast membership on a Pro-troops site. It's one of the most active forums that exists.

  "Some may want to go back." Most of them do, that I've talked to.

  "But not all." Yes, and believe me on this, the ones who don't, they can't wait to ship them out. FAST. You can be sure of that.

  i know it's emotive and i know some will fundamentally disagree that this is good news at all but i believe it is.. .

  from the bbc; regulators have agreed in principle to allow human-animal embryos to be created and used for research.

  but scientists wanting to use hybrids will still need to make individual applications, the human fertilisation and embryology authority said.

  i was thinking about what started my big doubts with the wt doctrine.

  i remember often questioining certain things but the biggest doubt was when i started some research in the wt literature about a subject i knew a lot about.

  Coffee! Whoa and thanks. What an odessey you took in your examination.

  Question: What exactly was the '95 change in the 1914 understanding? I missed it, was associating only sporatically at that point. Hell, until yesterday, I never considered a negative word at all about this organization.

  What did it for me though? Lack of true christian love. I was young and isolated and moved to a new cong after getting in trouble with a bro at the old cong. I was naieve and didn't realize my record would fall into not-so-loving hands in the new cong. The being 'called into meetings' started over any and everything, and pretty soon I "faded" as you all say. The bro I had been seeing came around still wanting to "be friends" I couldn't believe it, I nicely declined the offer. Oh I wanted to see him, but really didn't want to associate anymore with the cong. It was heartbreaking. I knew he would never leave the troof, and surely he's still out there going at it.

  i have been inactive now for over a half a year, and i am just now realizing that there was not one thing i enjoyed about being a witness.

  i enjoyed my friends and association with witnesses, and still do.

  but i didn't enjoy one thing that we were supposed to do, not one.

  Thanks ifcviking, staying will be easy. For years I wasn't willing to doubt the organization at all. Some of the best people I ever have known were JW's, and I didn't want to be part of the *apostacy*. I wasn't willing to admit that I had been harshly treated etc. and felt that I somehow deserved it. But as the years go, and I get wiser I can see how rotten some of that was, and how it didn't need to happen at all. Then again, and this is the NEW part, maybe it did need to happen.

  I also had secretly wondered what about the 1914 generation that wouldn't pass away...did they still tout that? Other things as well, and am now ready to search for answers.

  I'm new here and would like to say that reading everyone's comments here has been so ....theraputic (not to be too dramatic). I've been putting off dealing with what I went through for a long time. Too long. So many of the comments here I totally relate to. If there is an area for newbies, could someone point me to it? Unless this is it!

  What do I miss? Not the demanding schedule, the canned answers or fake friends. Not the nonsensical dogma and conflicting views. Especially not the harassment and accusations. Not the elder who would blather on and on and on about how he had to fight his unclean thoughts at inappropriate times, like when no one was around even if it was for a moment. After a while that turned into me being provocative. I was a young and very innocent girl. Can anyone guess how much guilt and shame you carry for years when an authority figure tells you, in an accusatory way that you have a "sexual aura"?! A whole bunch. By the time I quit going to meetings, I didn't feel worthy of stepping into a KH anymore. I was worldly, raised in the world, and had apparently failed at being reformed, according to that elder. Sorry if I'm sounding bitter, guess I am.

  I'll keep reading, you guys keep posting.
